Warning: This article contains major spoilers to Stranger Things season four.
Have you got Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' cassette ready? Good. Because you're going to need it.
Turns out, the super-sized fourth season of Stranger Things will not be the show's last, with the cult-favourite franchise returning for a fifth and final season.
While volume two (read: the epic season finale) of the highly anticipated fourth season gave us the Hawkins reunion we spent two years waiting for, it certainly left more questions than answered.
All we know is that if Max (aka the underrated Hawkins hero), doesn't make it through the fifth season alive then the Duffer Brothers will have a problem.
However, Netflix has thankfully teased a few details about what we can expect from the upcoming season and including who will be returning for season five and what the season will be about.
Whether you've already watched (and rewatched) the almost four hour long season finale or are still recovering from that Dustin and Eddie scene, we've rounded up below everything you need to know about the upcoming Stranger Things Season 5.
Is There A Season 5 Of 'Stranger Things'?
As previously mentioned, there will definitely be a fifth season of Stranger Things.
Back in February, the Duffer Brothers revealed that the show was in fact coming back for a fifth season, however it will be its last. Cries in 80s synth pop.
"Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for 'Stranger Things', at the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons," the show runners wrote.
"It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you'll soon see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last," they added.
"There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of 'Stranger Things'; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.
"But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down."
We're not sure we're emotionally ready for this.
What Will 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Be About?
Given that the epic season four finale ended on quite the cliff hanger, it's difficult to gauge what exactly the last season (and final showdown between Vecna and Eleven) will entail.
However, it seems like the Duffer Brothers have been leaving a trail of Hell Fire Club-sized clues about what the show will be about.
In an interview with Variety, the Duffer Brothers revealed that they're "setting the stage for some big reveals in our final season", including an explanation about why time froze in the Upside Down when Will was taken by the Demogorgon.
"This season, we are giving the audience a lot of information, but there's still mysteries about the Upside Down, and that is a big one," they explained.
"The only thing we don't fully delve into in volume two is Upside Down lore, we hint at it and I'm sure someone on Reddit will maybe piece it together, but a lot of those answer for the Upside Down — that's really what the basis for season five is about," they added.
As it turns out, Stranger Things Season 5 may not be the last time we see Hawkins after all, with the Duffer Brothers also sharing that they're working on a spinoff show.
While many fans are hoping for a Robin and Steve spinoff (us on the other hand will gladly accept anything with our favourite underrated nerd, Erica), the Duffer Brothers said "it's going to be different to what anyone's expecting". We'll just have to wait and see for ourselves.
As for us? We'd love to see Hopper and Joyce finally have their date at Enzo's, Steve find love, oh and the gate to the Upside Down close once and for all.
Who Is Cast In 'Stranger Things' Season 5?
So far, the cast of Stranger Things haven't let it slip who will be coming back for season five, and who won't.
While it's a given that all cast members who survived Vecna's curse will be returning (RIP Eddie), it's unsure what their fate will be.
Will Eleven finally be able to help Max regain her sight? Does Will's connection to the Upside Down and the Mind Flayer finally prove fruitful, or will it backfire like it does in season two? Again, does Steve find love?! These are questions that the Duffer Brother's need to answer,,stat.
The show runners have explained, however, that season five will also feature a time jump.
"I'm sure we will do a time jump. Ideally, we'd have shot [Seasons 4 and 5] back to back, but there was just no feasible way to do that," Ross Duffer told TV Line.
Given that many of younger Hawkins' babies are now full-blown adults, it may be the case that the upcoming fifth season will take place in college.
Now that's a show we'd love to see.
'Stranger Things' Season 5 Release Date
Sadly, Netflix and the show runners have not yet given us a release date for Stranger Things season five.
However, given that season four has only just been released and the Duffer Brothers have revealed they didn't shoot the seasons back to back, it's likely the show won't return to our screens until 2024.
Until then, we'll always have the first four seasons.
