Earlier this year, people of the world pondered over bizarre news claiming that The Joker sequel might be a musical. The plot thickened after learning that the role of Harley Quinn was awarded to Lady Gaga, .
While the casting choice is undoubtedly impeccable, the musical aspect was intriguing: How exactly will this work into the plot? Will Gaga burst into song while fighting off villains? Will she perform a tear-inducing ballad with the Joker himself? Colour us intrigued.
Now, Gaga herself has shared the first sneak peek of the upcoming sequel, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, and somehow, it works.
What will 'Joker: Folie À Deux' be about?
While little more is known about the plot other than the fact that Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as The Joker while Gaga will play Quinn, we can deduce from the title and teaser that the plot will focus on the pair's relationship and their struggle with mental health. folie à deux is a French reference for a medical term which describes a mental disorder affecting two or more people.
As we all know, Margot Robbie assumed the role of Quinn in the 2016 film Suicide Squad and the 2020 superhero film Birds of Prey.
The Hollywood Reporter also adds that the Joker sequel will likely see Quinn existing "in a different DC universe than … Robbie's Harley Quinn."
Alongside Phoenix's success from his haunting performance in the first Joker film and his extensive repertoire, Gaga's involvement will no doubt add to the film's success. In recent years, she scored an Oscar nomination for best actress for A Star Is Born, and BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for best actress for House of Gucci.
When will 'Joker: Folie À Deux' be released?
Per the first sneak peek, Warner Bros. has confirmed The Joker sequel will be released on October 4, 2024.
This is shaping up to be one of the most interesting DC movies yet, so we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for any further details as and when they drop.
