We've finally turned the page into the second half of 2022, and sadly, unprecedented times aren't done with us. But astrologically, things might be looking up, thanks to a Jupiter retrograde and a Leo new moon on the way.
The latest astrological items on the menu are this month's Jupiter retrograde and a Leo new moon, which are both conveniently headed to the sky on the exact same night. And while, yes, the word 'retrograde' typically reminds us of the Mercury variety—and the horror that can come from it—Jupiter has other plans for us, much kinder plans. For once, you might be able to look forward to a retrograde, rather than dread it.
Below, exactly what the Jupiter retrograde and Leo new moon are and why they both could give you a sneak peek into your month ahead.
WHEN IS THE LEO NEW MOON HAPPENING?
This year, the Leo new moon is heading to Australian skies on Friday June 29, 2022, and is expected to be at its brightest at around 3:54 am AEST. Just like every other full moon, its time in the sky will run for three days and three nights, meaning that it will leave us by Monday, August 1.
If you're keen to take a peek, but can't get yourself to the nearest (and clearest) night sky, then tune into Virtual Telescope Project, who will be live-streaming the event.
WHAT IS A JUPITER RETROGRADE?
On July 29 (AEST), Jupiter enters a retrograde in Aries, that will take place on the exact same day as the new moon in Leo and will continue until November 23.
While the thought of a retrograde typically makes us feel concerned of the stream of bad luck headed our way, the Jupiter variety is actually the polar opposite. In fact, Jupiter is known for bestowing material success, luck, good fortune, joy and positivity—so, you can breathe easy now.
Compared to its retrograde counterparts, Jupiter's offering isn't as intense. In fact, it's a powerful time to reassess your personal growth and keep an eye on whether you're moving in the right direction, or if you need to redirect your path.
"It gives us a chance to slow down a little bit and understand what we want you to grow in the future," astrologer Lisa Stardust told Refinery29.
"With Jupiter in Aries, we are thinking about ourselves in the world and not about the world at large—and when Jupiter is retrograde in Aries, we will begin to be a little bit less selfish and want to help others, not just ourselves."
If there's one thing that you might find slightly challenging in this retrograde, it could be that decisions that will help you thrive, may be difficult to make. So, instead of rushing into the decision making process, take your time and think your next steps through. Impulsive decision making isn't the way to make the most of Jupiter's offerings, so it's time to work smarter, not harder.
Until Jupiter wraps up its "backwards dance", this could be a time where your sense of strength and trust could be tested. The reasons for this might not be obvious at first, but over time, trust that you'll understand why you were tested. And remember, this astrological shift isn't worth stressing out over, no matter what changes, you'll figure it out.
WHAT IS THE LEO NEW MOON?
For the Lions in our pride, Leo's astrological season begins on July 22 and ends on August 22. With the Leo new moon reaching the sky less than a week after the season kicked off, the moon is promising a month of mystery, new beginnings and uncertainty.
Think of a new moon as a chance for new possibilities, opportunities and dreams to all be at your disposal. Through the phases of the new moon, it's your chance to observe how you see and react to the world, reconnect with the people around you. This lunar month is your opportunity to stay cognisant of the emotional terrain you'll be overcoming.
But what does that mean? Well, a new moon in Leo is all about fun, celebration, expression, and ironically, pride when it comes to your accomplishments. The Leo new moon could be the best time to launch a creative project or set some new boundaries for yourself. Remember that life is layered, your decisions don't always need to be seen as black-and-white, take your time and consider the best possible outcomes for you.
