When news broke that Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes would be starring in a film together, people were understandably excited. The young actresses have already made individual waves in Hollywood, so a joining of forces was going to be nothing short of spectacular. As predicted, Do Revenge was nothing short of fabulous, particularly if you're a fan of that Netflix-esque original genre where everything feels like it's on colourful, glitter-infused steroids.
As the name suggests, the movie's central premise is the very real belief that hell hath no fury like a teenage girl scorned. Awkward new girl Eleanor (Hawke) and fallen queen bee Drea (Mendes) team up to carry out revenge on each others enemies, in this candy-coloured version of Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train.
Of course, the intricacies plot are great, including one twist that still has people reeling, but incredible writing aside, the star of the show was undoubtedly the fashion. A pastel fever dream, bursting with dimension and life, every scene served a new aesthetic which blended notable designers (like I AM GIA and Versace) with hand-crafted, original pieces.
Speaking to InStyle, the film's costume designer Alana Morshead confirmed that she had drawn inspiration from the cult classic 90s movies, including Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Jawbreaker and Clueless.
Carefully treading the line between futuristic and nostalgic, the overall aesthetic was Y2K meets 90s coming-of-age movie. Set in a Miami private school, the uniform incorporated pastel berets and capes paired with chunky shoes and purple and green plaid skirts.
While Morshead took care to ensure Drea and Eleanor's personal aesthetics were vastly different to one another, the complimented each other perfectly throughout, making for the ultimate stylish duo.
Read on as we unpack some of the best fashion moments from the movie, including where to shop some of the pieces.
