While his high-profile defamation case with Amber Heard raged on, the media couldn't stop talking about Johnny Depp's chemistry with one of his legal representatives, Camille Vasquez. The pair seemed incredibly close, with many speculating that something romantic was going on behind-the-scenes — a rumour which was vehemently denied.
It does however, seem that Depp has an affinity for people within his legal circle, as the 59-year-old actor is now rumoured to be dating the lawyer who represented him in his 2020 libel lawsuit against the UK Sun. Joelle Rich, a 37-year-old partner at major international law firm Schillings, is reportedly in a 'serious' relationship with Depp.
"Their chemistry is off the charts," a source told US Weekly.
"It's serious between them. They are the real deal."
Despite Depp losing the case in November 2020, it doesn't seem to have impacted his relationship with the legal team involved, with Rich even making a handful of appearances at his trial against Heard as a show of 'support.'
"There was no professional obligation for her being there," the source added. "It was personal."
Rich is rumoured to be in the process of divorcing from her husband, with whom she shares two children.
Of course, off the back of speculation that Depp was involved with Vasquez, the news that he is dating anyone on his legal team is a source of great intrigue. At what point during something so professional do you blur the boundaries into personal?
At the time of these rumours, Vasquez condemned social media for adding fuel to the fire, arguing that the gossip was "sexist" and insisted her behaviour was in no way "inappropriate or unprofessional".
"It's also an unethical charge being made", she told People at the time.
"It's unfortunate and it's disappointing, but at the same time it kind of comes with the territory. I can't say I was all that surprised."
In the wake of his win against Heard, Depp has been attached to two Hollywood projects: a biopic about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, which he will also direct, and a French period drama titled Jeanne du Barry, where he'll portray King Louis XV. This marks Depp's first onscreen role in three years since the allegations were made against him.
