Move Over Braces, Tooth Gems Are Set To Be Huge In 2022

We never thought we’d optionally be sticking something onto our teeth.

While we've already rounded up the major fashion and beauty trends for 2022, there's one style that's set to reign supreme next year that we urgently need to talk about. Thanks to those perinerally stylish and avant-garde Gen-Z's, we're set to see the rise of (checks notes) tooth gems.
For most of us, our adolescence was marked by painfully awkward orthodontic work, so we (understandably) vowed to never fix anything to our teeth ever again. Yet, here we are several years later, enviously watching as TikTokers and A-listers glue diamantes and butterflies to their teeth, and we hate to say it, but it looks... cool?
To understand how the tooth gem trend first came about, and how you can try it for yourself at home, keep scrolling below.

What Are Tooth Gems?

Tooth gems are small, albeit stylish gemstones that are applied to the surface of your tooth (or multiple, go wild!), with an adhesive material.
Given the influx of Y2K style, it's understandable to see how tooth gems have become a popular extension to one's beauty routine.
But it's not just a fad for Gen-Z, with even the most stylish celebrities from Iris Law to Hailey Bieber rocking this look.
Way back in 2017, Bieber stepped out at the 2017 Met Gala with not just one, but two tooth gems affixed to her pearly whites. We've also noticed British model Adwoa Aboah adopt a Chanel logo-shaped gem as her signature look.

How Long Do Tooth Gems Last?

The gems are temporary, which means there's no drilling or pain required (thank god), plus there's pretty much no downtime.
Most gems can last up to six weeks (or even two years) with proper care, however we highly implore you to consult a professional if you're looking to try this style yourself.
